Saskatchewan Emergency Planners’ Association Scholarship

Details
The Saskatchewan Emergency Planners’ Association Scholarship is an annual award given to a minimum of one recipient based on how well they meet the criteria.  The selection of recipient and size of award is at the discretion of the SEPA Board of Directors, and they will have the final say over all matters pertaining to the Saskatchewan Emergency Planners’ Association Scholarship.

Size of Award
The total size of the award granted to each recipient is subject to the discretion of the SEPA Board of Directors.  The award amount for the current year is determined by the funds raised at the prior year’s conference.  For the 2020 year, the award may total up to $1500.00, future award amounts will be determined by the funds raised at the previous year’s conference.  No single recipient will receive an award of less than $500.00

Criteria for Award
Three categories in which applications are accepted:
  1. High School Graduate Entering or Continuing an Emergency Management Program
    1. This category is limited to applicants between the ages of 17-22 who are entering or continuing an Emergency Management Program at a College or University.  The SEPA Board of Directors reserves the right to determine whether a particular College, University or Training program meets the criteria for this award.
  2. Mature Student Entering an Emergency Management Program
    1. This category is limited to students classified as a Mature Student who are entering an Emergency Management Program at a College, University or Training program.  The SEPA board of Directors reserves the right to determine whether a particular College, University or Training program meets the criteria for this award.
  3. Child of a SEPA member
    1. This category is open to all children of any SEPA Member who are entering or currently enrolled in an Emergency Management program.
The SEPA Board of Directors reserves the sole right to award to any or none of the applicants in a particular category.

Application Criteria
The following are the requirements to apply for the SEPA Scholarship:
  1. An essay (no less than 750 words) based on a topic defined by the SEPA Board of Directors 50%
  2. A combination of GPA/Curriculum Vitae and Volunteer Work 50%
  3. The Award Winner(s) must be represented at the Annual SEPA Banquet (allocated time determined) conference (banquet meal paid by the board)
  4. Funds will be paid upon proof of enrolment
  5. Current SEPA Board members, staff and their immediate family members are not eligible
